Pierre's Costumes

History

building frontIn 1943, Pierre’s Uniforms Inc., a uniform manufacturer servicing the medical and restaurant professions, emerged into professional costuming trading as “Costumes by Pierre.”

In 1961, Pierre purchased the tremendous inventory of “Miller Costumier” of Philadelphia, which had been active since 1876. With this acquisition, Pierre became one of the world’s foremost costumers.

Over the past 25 years, Pierre’s has acquired costumes and stock from over 20 other large high-end costume shops who were retiring. (This allowed Pierre’s to add unique and original items to the stock while still building new costumes as well.)

During the last five decades Pierre’s has maintained a complete full service professional costume house, designing and manufacturing on the premises. Pierre’s services professional and semi-professional theatrical productions, national theater tours, school & college theaters, motion pictures, advertising agencies, party planners, production companies, professional sports teams, print & TV commercials, major corporations, televised parades, theme parks, and costume shops throughout the world.

In 1993 Pierre’s moved from Walnut street in Philadelphia to a new, larger, modern location 5 minutes away from downtown Philadelphia just across the Ben Franklin Bridge in Pennsauken, NJ. In September 2000, Pierre’s returned to Philadelphia (in the Historic Olde City section) just in time for the busy Halloween season. The move was spurred on by a need for an even larger location. The opportunity to design and create a brand new state-of-the-art costume studio, and to fill the void created by the demise of the old theatrical costume shops.

In 2005, Irvin Stern’s Costumes (since 1900) closed their doors. This long-established company had been run by another family member. After the owner’s death, Pierre’s obtained many specialized costumes, and took over servicing those customers.

Pierre’s has well over 1,000,000 different costumes to chose from, making it by far the largest costume shop in the Philadelphia area / Delaware Valley, and one of the largest in the country. We are proud to ensure the continuation of one of the country’s oldest costumers.

We allow the public and theatrical organizations the opportunity to rent from a wide range of top quality, in-house manufactured costumes or original historic garments. Pierre’s Costumes also carries a full line of Halloween outfits, professional make-up, wigs and accessories. Pierre’s makes custom designed costumes for Television Personalities, Movies, Musicians, Performers, and many others. Pierre’s continues it’s long history of creating and designing original mascots for corporations, sports teams, theme parks, colleges, schools, parades and more.

Pierre’s Costumes continues with our tradition of providing the highest quality costumes, while expanding the services offered, and building new inventory. Pierre’s hires some of the brightest and best costumers in the country. This allows us to create items that others can only dream of.
